Eat Out on the Cheap!

I love Jason Cochran from Walletpop.com… he’s a regular guest on our newscasts and today– he had some great ideas for saving you money when you dine at your favorite restaurants.

And I love that he ALSO knew that Philly’s restaurant week is coming up.  It’ s one of my favorite times in the city.  You can get incredible deals, enjoy fantastic food, and use it as a chance to try new hot spots, or restaurants you just haven’t had a chance to check out yet.  Restaurant week is September 12th-17th, and 19th-24th.

What is it Julia Child always used to say? Bon Apetit?

Tax Delinquent? The time to pay is NOW

by Kerri-Lee on July 6, 2010 · 1 comment

A lot of people owe our very broke city a whole lotta money.  Over the past 8 weeks the city  collected 60 million bucks from tax delinquents as part of a two month amnesty program.

The downside– there is no relief for those still straining under program cuts and tax hikes.

So what’s the magic solution, what is going to help us climb out of this hole once and for all? Or… is it even possible at this point? Bruce Gordon and I talked about it on the 5pm news

Eyewitness Accounts– Reliable?

by Kerri-Lee on June 22, 2010 · 23 comments

Despite our best intentions, human error can play a role in how well we are able to give an eyewitness account of a crime or suspect.  Test yourself sometime– you may not be suprised to find out you’re not quite as sharp at this as you might have thought you were.  It’s hard! Add adrenalin, or fear from a crime scene and it becomes even harder.   Unfortunately incorrect eyewitness testimony routinely puts innocent people behind bars, only to have DNA (often years later, if at all) clearing their name of a crime they did not commit.

New Jersey is trying to make changes that would make it tougher for this to happen.  Dave Shratweiser spoke with me on our 6pm news tonight about this.

Survival on the Streets

by Kerri-Lee on June 11, 2010 · 4 comments

This is Sabina Rose.

She was murdered in Northern Liberties last week in cold blood.  As police search for the 21 year-old’s killer, local self-defense studios say their phones are ringing off the hook with people who want to learn how to protect themselves should the unthinkable happen.

A great local martial arts studio is Balance Studios in Fitler Square.

Here’s a piece from philly.com about the studio and the owners… and on a lighter note, check out who’s “fighting” in the ring.  (Think I can take him?)

Bike Lanes– fan?

by Kerri-Lee on June 10, 2010 · 5 comments

Do you like the Spruce Street-Pine Street bikes lanes, or are those pesky bikers (careful, I’m one of them) not deserving of their coveted Center City “lane space.”

It’s a hot one– go ahead, weigh in!
