Senator Scott Brown?

by Kerri-Lee on January 20, 2010 · 10 comments

I worked in the Boston market for several years, and remember many a presser with then, DA Martha Coakley.  Knowing that political scene fairly well it was no surprise to me that she was up for Senator Ted Kennedy’s seat upon his passing, and like the rest of the state, I pretty much figured she had it in the bag.  Scott Brown was relatively unknown, far behind in the polls and most of all– a Republican.  What a turn of events.  This is the interview I did with FOX Boston’s Martin Morenz before the polls closed.

Lighter side note– after work last night I was catching up on TV shows and thumbing through my iPhone at the same time.  My husband sent me a text saying that Scott Brown had a journalist wife and a home in the Berkshires, so I decided to google him and learn more about this new US Senator when I discovered his daughter, Ayla, was on American Idol in Season 5.  Is there ANY news story that show doesn’t creep into?

Helping Haiti

by Kerri-Lee on January 13, 2010 · 12 comments

A sunny day at the beach in Haiti.  What a far cry these pictures are from what Haiti looks like right now.

The bottom picture is of my little guy and my dad and I took it about three weeks ago while my family visited the country, as well as several others in the Caribbean.  Little did any of us know back then what devastating destruction was in store for the island not even one month later…

The people of Haiti need our support, our help, our love– and our money.

On my facebook page people have been posting ways we can chip in and do our part, so I wanted to share a couple of them since so many of you want to reach out and help this island nation.

Text–

Text  HAITI to 90999 to donate $10 to The Red Cross immediately…..they will bill through your mobile carrier.

As I hear of more, I will continue to add to this list, and if you have anything else you can pass on please leave it in the comment section below.

Meantime, we just cut a promo from FOX 29 that talks about how you can help by going to our website, www.myfoxphilly.com.  Whatever you can do will help so much.  I met some wonderful Haitians during my visit to the country and it breaks my heart to think they may have been hurt or are in any kind of pain right now, let’s all band together as we would hope others would do for us should we find ourselves in this situation.

Licking The Salt Problem

by Kerri-Lee on January 11, 2010 · 4 comments

When I was young, I remember sitting at the dinner table one night infront of a plate of chicken wanting so badly to go out to play, instead of hunkering down and eating my dinner as my siblings already had.  After complaining that I didn’t really like it anyway, my dad tried to be helpful and suggested, “putting a little bit of salt” on my chicken to make it tastier to eat.  It worked!  I dashed the chicken on my plate with salt and voila, it tasted really good and I gobbled it up.  A little salt on food that didn’t have any on it already, as dad suggested, is perfectly fine but the problem is, there is usually so much salt in the food we eat already that if we add more we are getting a double dose that could be deadly.

Dr. Mike joined me on the  5-Spot today to explain what salt does to us, and why it’s in our best interest to learn to put the shaker down, now.  Including me…
