Bike Lanes– fan?

Do you like the Spruce Street-Pine Street bikes lanes, or are those pesky bikers (careful, I’m one of them) not deserving of their coveted Center City “lane space.”

It’s a hot one– go ahead, weigh in!

I held off commenting on this one because I don’t drive in Philly that much.

And whenever I do, if my car and I return home with the same amount of parts we went in with….we consider the trip a raging success.

Bicycles don’t really figure in the tally….one way or the other.

Here’s an idea….

why not open up a flash mob lane ?

Maybe then the bicycles won’t seem so threatening.

Cyclists–as city tax payers who pay for our local roads–have a right to the road. We may have our separate lane which lets cars go faster and pass us or we will take the right lane. Personally, I think cyclists like all users of the roads deserve to have safe accommodations. Personally, I don’t like when anyone tries to run me down, but that’s not really a problem particular to cyclists. In fact, I’m pretty sure more accidents result from automobiles.

Fritz (comment #4) got it right. Motorists exceed speed limits; they roll through stop signs without stopping; they turn and change lanes without signaling. Motor vehicles kill a hundred people every day, just in the U.S. This isn’t to say that cyclists shouldn’t obey the law — they should — but to single them out is ludicrous. I wouldn’t want to be hit by a cyclist, but being hit by a car is far worse.
