Today was a blend of seemingly unrelated activities, though being that it is Saturday, they were all equally enjoyable and satisfying. We headed up to our place in the country last night much earlier than normal, since I took Friday off (extra snow days had accumulated comp time) so I got up early, and was raring to go.
The morning started out fairly routine with a dog walk, then a trip to the ski shop to pick up some skiis that needed some adjustments, then it was off to the frozen pond to play… hockey!
Growing up, my sisters and I were all figure skaters, it was our brother (who now works for the Rangers, before that the Islanders, and Canucks) that was the aspiring Wayne Gretzky, but the sport has deep roots in my family tree. My Grandfather played semi-pro and all my Canadian relatives have been longtime “Hockey Night In Canada” fans, so to see my little guy take to the ice and play hockey for the first time was really meaningful, kind of like watching history repeat itself. My husband Kirt also played hockey in highschool and college (with all this hockey in my life, do you understand why I’m a big Flyers fan now?) so he was happy to organize the family hockey game, bringing sticks for all of us to use.
What a lot of fun we had, out there for hours!
The ice was a little slushy, but it was deeply frozen, so we weren’t worried about cracking. With the sun shining brightly and the blue sky above us, it was a little slice of heaven in late February.
I decided to come in and warm up my hands while the “boys” go sledding so that I could write a grocery list for dinner, and that’s where my second *new* passion comes in to play. See, I’m into French cooking right now.
Maybe it was watching “Julie and Julia,” maybe it was my husband’s Valentine’s Day gift of Julia Child’s “Mastering the Art of French Cooking” Volumes One and Two, or maybe it’s because Saturday’s are my cheat days (and French cooking has TONS of butter and cream)– whatever the reason, it’s my latest love.
So off I go to buy the goodies that will turn into ”Supremes de Volaille a Blanc” (Breast of chicken with white cream) which I will serve with artichoke hearts and risotto. The recipes in this famous cookbook include “delicious” ways to eat everything from brains to sweetbreads to liver, so for fun I threatened my family with the cooked goose dish, smiling at their exclamations of ”noooo” and “ewwwww.” I think I’ll stick to chicken… (wink wink) for now.
What are you up to? Has your day also been a strange combination of things that make you happy?
Comment, I love hearing from you all.

I’m sure Dr. Mike can steer you to an appropriate market.

Ok.
I deal with the public, and there are times when I am exposed to opinions/observations/insights that…..
A. I wish I wasn’t
B. Make me realize there is a segment of the population that is severely under-medicated
C. Make me realize that there is a segment of the population that should be more closely monitored
But…I gotta tell ya…..
A guy came in to the mine today….
A normal guy….
And he said there’s a Native American that has correctly predicted this year’s snowstorms and is predicting a snowstorm for March 7th that will drop 40 inches of snow.
I’m just sayin’.

However, if the previous post would prove to be true and happen to catch the attention of a certain eccentric Australian mogul……..
And he was desirous to lay a boatload of dough, benefits and accolades on me …….
I would be willing to accept said boatloads of dough…..etc……
Until such time as I was proven to be a complete charlatan….
And I would agree to go away quietly…..
Provided the severance package was right.

When I went out to feed “da boids” this morning, I saw a robin.
The first robin of spring.
Only it’s not spring yet.

I normally go to the supermarket on Thursdays, but that’s not gonna be practical tomorrow.
So now, instead of taking a nap before work, I’m going to the supermarket.
And it’s gonna be NUTS there.
If you never hear from me again, you’ll know what happened.
JT 02.24.10 at 8:55 am
Bob - don’t forget to shovel Daphne’s place.
bobm 02.24.10 at 12:17 pm
Hmmm. I was already to the store today. Milk is already extinct there!! Had to mix powered coffee creamer with water just to make my goatmeal this morning!!!

What about a routine rabbitt walk ?
Hmmmmmm?
JT 02.26.10 at 9:45 pm
I survived the supermarket trip; I grew a beard in the checkout line.
I almost got run over by one of those motorized carts that they issue to people who have had their driver’s licenses revoked.
JT 02.26.10 at 9:51 pm
tgif.
I have to work tomorrow.
But it’s cool; I can always use the a-bo-de-oh-dough.
JT 02.26.10 at 9:52 pm
Have a nice weekend, everyone.
JT 02.26.10 at 10:45 pm
This just in…….
KL said that she has had several comments on Facebook regarding a storm on March 7th.
Jeepers.
I gotta get on Facebook.
JT 02.26.10 at 10:49 pm
I guess the robins I saw the last few days must’ve read the Old Farmer’s Almanac.
JT 03.07.10 at 1:10 pm
Hi everyone.
Apparently, we were having WAAAAAAAAAAAAY too much fun in here and KL gave us a timeout.
So, in the future, please try to control yourselves.
Enjoy this beautiful day.
Barrel. (hopefully)

JT 03.10.10 at 8:00 pm
Hmmmmm…… awfully quiet in here……
listen to that corn grow !
Here comes a tumbleweed !
JT 03.10.10 at 8:15 pm
Speaking of delicious veggies…..(I meant the corn, not the tumbleweed, although shredded wheat always reminded me of a flattened tumbleweed, ok, a TINY flattened tumbleweed), I think I wanna plant some potatoes this year.
I have to find out where I can get some seed potatoes.
I’ve read on the internet (so, it MUST be true !) that planting supermarket potatoes is a bad idea because they are treated with an anti-growth thingy.
But I’m gonna try it,anyway. Tomorrow before work I’m gonna plant a couple of potatoes and see what happens. If the rain holds off, that is.
bobm 03.11.10 at 8:45 am
Ive never eaten a tumbleweed before? Smoked one once!! They burn much more evenly than dust-bunnies!!! Be safe all. Stay dry KLTVers!!!!
JT 03.11.10 at 9:21 am
Did you inhale ?
JT 03.11.10 at 3:26 pm
Bob - I think we have to say something about hockey, or we’ll be on this blog forever.
So, here goes…..
Ummmmm…….hockey………
rhymes with……..
jabberwockey.
JT 03.11.10 at 3:27 pm

JT 03.13.10 at 7:40 am
So much for the “say something about hockey” theory.
Looks like I’ll be swimming to the mine today.
Stay dry, everyone.
bobm 03.15.10 at 2:48 pm
another miserable monday folks!!! the good news is the sunshine ( KL ) is returning soon!!!
JT 03.15.10 at 6:03 pm
The sunshine is back, but the weather is still crappy.
Somebody should tell the weather that it musta made a wrong turn cause this ain’t Seattle.
Rich 03.15.10 at 9:43 pm
What sunshine? Where?
I wonder why the first day of Daylight Savings is always cloudy or rainy?
JT 03.16.10 at 11:59 am
Rich -when Bob and I mentioned “the sunshine”, we were referring to KL, who was off for a few days. (Btw, whenever I tune in to the news and she’s not on I say “tsk, what a gyp”.)
I wonder why the first day of Daylight Savings is always cloudy or rainy?
It’s a conspiracy involving George W. Bush, Al Gore, the Illuminati and the Lennon Sisters.
The mine awaits, have a good day everyone.
bobm 03.17.10 at 10:55 am
