Not quite time to light the fireworks just yet…. but the 4th of July is only hours away! I love this time of year
We’ll talk holiday weekend celebrations in just a minute, but first:

Email of the Day
You know I like to share funny emails, or gag emails that viewers send me, but this one, written by a high school teacher really made my day! I’m so glad I listened carefully in school about language and how to use it, as well as all those talks my dad gave me about growing up and how to make good decisions about life, and career. We all stumble and fall as we use trial and error to figure our path out, but I thought this emailers words were very important for us all to hear.
Who doesn’t remember that vulnerable, unsure time called “being a teenager.” We were tough to reach back then, and they are tough for us to reach now. We do news stories about why it’s such a difficult age and how “invincibility” rules.
I can think of so many local public figures who are shining examples of how to grow up and “get it right,” and thankfully the youth in our area, can look to them and learn, as we all try to work our way through this thing called, “life.”
To the sender: a very special thank you and know I am beyond flattered, and I will be thinking of the students you teach…
Dear Ms. Halkett,
I wanted to take a minute to send an email to thank you for the excellent example you set for our youth. Each year I pick out several well known public figures who display traits that I want my students and athletes to notice and try to emulate.
Your professionalism, poise, use of our language, friendly disposition, ability to adjust your style to your particular audience and subject matter, treatment of your peers on the show, community service, dedication to your profession, and overall grace make you an excellent role model. Pointing out examples of the above to my students shows them concrete examples of the many traits needed for success in today’s world. These examples were very easy to find when using you as an example.
At times teenagers tend to believe it is only who you know or how you look that makes or breaks you. By discussing people like yourself, students learn that so much more is involved. If you don’t object, I will continue to point out examples to my class of why you are so successful. Thank you once again for your outstanding example!
If I may - if true beauty were a color, you would be a rainbow.
(I took out the name just in case the sender gets ribbed by students, you know how teenagers are! But it was from a high school teacher in New Jersey)

Hitting the Road?
Many of you are getting the heck out of Dodge today, maybe you are staying close to home and only doing a “one tank trip” thanks to high gas prices, but it will still feel good to get together with friends and family near and far for the holiday weekend.
I’m anchoring the 5 and 10pm solo, tonight and tomorrow night. Remember, you can watch the newscasts live anywhere in the world by going to www.myfoxphilly.com during 5 and 10 EST. Join me, so I don’t feel like I’m the only working during a holiday… not that I mind a bit, I’ll celebrate the 4th at the shore this weekend. That will be fun too
Speaking of celebrations– it’s a big one for Ben Franklin and Betsy Ross today.
The Countdown Is On!
Their Personal Scrapbook
From www.myfoxphilly.com:
The actors who play Ben Franklin and Betsy Ross are getting married- and you’re invited to their wedding in Philadelphia! MyFoxPhilly.com is the EXCLUSIVE provider of the live Web cast of the wedding, on July 3rd at 8 p.m. ET. So mark that date on your calendar for The Wedding Of The (18th) Century!
———————————-
I’m going to wander down there too, since it’s so close to our FOX Studios, it should be great to see. I think Thomas Jefferson is the best man, or that’s the rumor in Old City at least LOL

Good Morning Kerri Lee,
We are spending the weekend home and mostly with family, which is how I like it. Tonight we are going to see the Greeaseband in NJ for my birthday (50!!) its an all ages outdoor event, with foreworks afterwards. The 4th is a picnic here at the house and the 5th my sisters are having a picnic so its pretty muhc a family weekend.
Speakign of family, I love the pics of the “Van-Man” and his musical instruments.
Happy 4th.
