I met Eric Bazilian at the WXPN Beggar’s Banquet this year. Of course, being that he is a real live super star singer, I asked him if he would do an American Idol blog for me, for this website. He watches the show, he knows how to sing– he’s the perfect person to weigh in as we wrap up Season 7.
Here’s Eric and the guys singing “I’m Alive,” which is my favorite single from “The Hooters” latest album.

[/youtube]————————-Idol Reflection And Speculation
On the eve of another Idol final I’m throwing my hands in the air and
figuring I’ll just take a deep breath and let it unfold. I’ve
allowed myself to get emotionally invested in three contests now
counting this one. Fortunately the attachment has diminished with
each passing year. I’ve got to say, since the Carrie/Bo finale I
haven’t felt the drama that the two of them brought to the table. I
missed the following year (was that Fantasia?) but did get sucked
into last year with Jordin and Company. She was undeniably engaging
but certainly didn’t seem the stuff of Legend. I must admit I was
surprised when Carrie beat out Bo… I thought it was time for a Rock
Guy to win it, didn’t really see where Carrie would fit in. But, in
his infinite wisdom, Simon called it right from the beginning with
the Country Card. I mean, really, what’s more American for an Idol
than Country?
So this week is another chance for the Rock Guy to take the prize. I
was, like the rest of the Idol Pack, totally transfixed when David A.
gave that astonishing reading of Imagine. As a musician I’m very
tuned in to stylistic details, the choices that singers make. His
were totally and undeniably spot on, even when he forced himself to
go a little flat on one of his turns at the end. But, jeez, he’s a
Mouseketteer, isn’t he? I can totally see the Grannies and the
Teenies voting for him tomorrow night but I’m hoping that America
will use this week as their practice run for November and make what
is so obviously the wise and honorable choice.
And that’s all I’ve got to say about that.

When I read Eric’s writing, I can totally hear the singer songwriter in him come out… did you know he wrote, “One Of Us” that became a HUGE Joan Osborne hit?

I have loved Eric since the ’80s, and The Hooters are the best band to come out of Philadelphia.

I think David should win. Im an idiot for saying that. Okay I am thinking it should be the young guy the small one Archuleta. Cook is too “produced” sounding to me.

I am very disappointed with Simon’s critique of Cook on his last song. You should have sang Hello or Billie Jean? That is lame!!! This is a live show, not a rerun. So glad Cook stood his ground and said, “Why do something I already did?”
Which of course, is what vocal gymnast, David “Comaneci” Archuleta did.
And when he sang “join” on Imagine (I hope someday you will join us) - my TV screen almost cracked. It was scarily off!!!
By the way, nice to see the Hooters still kicking around.
Bazilian and I have a lot in common. We are both Armenian-American musicians from Philadelphia.
Eric B, if you are in Philly any Friday, pop into Cascamorto Piano Bar where I do a weekly show from 5 to 8:30. And I always play some Hooters tunes.
Go David Cook!!!

Ok, I watched it last night, and man… they are both so good. David A is just so awkward though. I don’t think I could ever get used to it. DCOOK ALL THE WAYYY! I forgot to vote though…
