Angelo Cataldi’s “Idol” thoughts

 Suddenly, after one of the most compelling seasons of American Idol, I find myself torn. The performer whose music I would actually buy (In fact, I already bought his amazing rendition of Billie Jean) is David Cook, but the purest signer is definitely David Archuleta. Compounding my mixed emotions is a sudden sympathy for Archuleta as the behavior of his stage dad becomes more and more obnoxious. David’s father from hëll, Jeff, has been banned from direct involvement in his son’s efforts because he has constantly interfered — betraying the orders of the producers, berating his son to tears, etc. Because of this mess, I wouldn’t mind at all if Archuleta wins.

     In fact, I’ll offer a best-case scenario: Archuleta wins Idol and makes enough money on his first CD to escape the clutches of his annoying father, and Cook finishes a strong second, thereby preserving his rock street cred. How does that sound?

     Oh, yeah. As I write this, Syesha is a third contender for the title. Puhleeze. She’s as dead in this competition as the Flyers are in the playoffs.
