Here’ssssssssssss Angelo!
——————————–
I am writing this just before the Final Four, and I am not happy. In the past couple of weeks, two of the absolute best singers were eliminated — Michael Johns and Carly Smithson — while two total duds — Syesha Mercado and Jason Castro — are still in it. Have the voters lost their minds? Their hearing?
Anyway, as I predicted weeks ago, this is still a two-horse race between the two Davids. And it is now becoming a referendum on who exactly votes for the American Idol. If the teenyboppers take over, David Archuleta will win. He is a major talent, but he hasn’t really dazzled since his rendition of Imagine months ago. If the more mature voters get out the vote, David Cook will win. He amazes on a weekly basis, making every song his own. In the long run, Cook will prevail because he is about to become a huge star. Archuleta will be performing at a dinner-theater near you soon.

I missed AI again this week. I found it more interesting several weeks ago. I think AI has “jumped the shark” for this season. Consider: two consecutive Beatles weeks — the first week was maybe passable, the second was maybe one of the worst AI shows in memory, Neil Diamond week — none of the singers did particularly well with his songs, same with Dolly Parton. It just seems the formats are exploiting all of their weaknesses and not allowing them to use their strengths. Unlike some years, I don’t see much improvement in the performances as time goes on. David Cook showed a lot of improvement, but that was two months ago.
The other thing is, what are they playing for at this point. While a show like Survivor gives $1M to the winner, AI basically promises a record contract. The thing is, when you get down to the last six or so, they’re all going to turn professional and there’s no guarantee that the winner will be the one that enjoys the most success.

Now, I wonder if it’s my work computer that won’t let me post. Who knows?

Hey Steve– let me know if you’re still having problems, I’ll talk to our web guy and get to the bottom of it.

Steve, could be. I have the same problem.
Websense picks up this site as “Uncategorized”. I can’t even view it at work.

KLH. This is a test from work.

But now I just tried a post (with a link) and it didn’t work. That may be the problem (or they get held up in limbo and eventually get posted - like a few posted on your Johnny Goodtimes blog).
Hmm?

Can you believe about David’s dad being banned for being a control freak?
