I’m weird. Therefore I like bizarre festivals and events. There are an abundance of them in the surrounding areas coming up in the next few months. Here are a few of my favorites for May. If anybody knows any other strange events or festivals coming up in May, please post them below.
Sly Fox Bock Fest and Goat Race. Sunday, May 4th. Phoenixville, PA. Each year, the excitement of the Kentucky Derby comes to Phoenixville. Except without the excitement. Some of God’s slowest and most stubborn creatures face off in one of the slowest races in America, and the winning goat gets a beer named after it.
25th Annual Rhubarb Festival. Friday, May 16 and Saturday, May 17. Intercourse, PA. Just when you thought Intercourse couldn’t get any better, it goes out and has a festival! In this case, a rhubarb festival. I entered a few years ago (nearly pulling off a monumental upset), and this year they asked me to be a celebrity judge. To be honest, being asked to be a judge for the 25th Annual Rhubarb Festival in Intercourse is the third most prestigious thing a person can be honored with. (The exact order is: 1. Being knighted 2. Receiving a Purple Heart 3. Being a celebrity judge for the 25th Annual Rhubarb Festival in Intercourse, PA 4. Winning an Oscar 5. Super Bowl MVP.)
Kensington Kinetic Sculpture Derby. May 17th. Philadelphia, PA. The Kensington Kinetic Sculpture Derby is like the Tour De France, except in Kensington with people dressed up like aliens.
The World’s Longest Yard Sale. Route 40. May 28-June 1st. This one doesn’t quite run through Philly, but it comes close enough. The 5th Annual Historic US 40 Yard Sale begins in Baltimore and ends in St. Louis, 824 miles worth of great deals on 2nd hand stuff.

These are great ideas… now I just have to squeak a long-range forecast blog out of Bolaris, and if that’s good for these weekends, we’re set! Now on a personal note JG– are you, me and DMAC going to the Foodery this weekend, to uh, shop for groceries, or what?

haha, I love the very first sentence of this post.
I want that garage sale madness to come to A-town. Maybe I can find myself a nice pair of overalls.

Yes, Kerri-Lee, you, D-Mac and I will have to grab groceries sometime soon. There are a number of excellent grocery stores in the local area. With the weather this nice, we’ll have to enjoy these groceries outdoors. As for A-Town, we laugh at your poor excuse for yard sales. Talk to us when you get an 824 mile yard sale in your immediate vicinity.

Haha, Oh Johnny. Keep laughing. See what happens! (yeah, that’s a dare).
KL- Don’t worry, the Illadelph will always trump A-town! This I know… I can only imagine how cool I would be if I would just move back.
