Hi! My name is Kerri-Lee Halkett, an anchor at Philadelphia's FOX 29. When the station asked me to do a daily blog, and run my own website, I stopped in my tracks-- sure, but how? I went to "Geek School" as my web department called it, and learned fast, and guess what? It's a lot of fun! I've met bloggers from all over, and many even contribute to the site-- like Johnny Goodtimes, and HOTT Nanny. Other bloggers stop by and leave their mark in the comments section, why not become one yourself? Come by often, the site is always open and changing... check it out!-- Kerri-Lee Halkett

Keep Philadelphia Beautiful Rally

Come to our BLOCK CAPTAIN RALLY this Saturday, March 29th, at the PA Convention Center.

I will be there to kick the day off, alongside Phoebe Coles from Keep Philadelphia Beautiful. She is an incredible lady who needs our support. You can see her in this story I did on a Philadelphia Block Party!

Come one, come all, and get involved!

You just can’t imagine what block captains have meant to our city, so we need to recognize their efforts and dedication. But we also need more of you to step up to the plate. Let’s make our goal to have a block captain on every corner.

Great American Cleanup

Keep America Beautiful’s, Great American Cleanup, is underway in Philadelphia. Events in March have been both educational and active. Events thus far have included school presentations about litter and graffiti abatement; a community rain barrel presentation; a community tree planting and clean up; and the introduction of public event recycling along Kelly Drive in Fairmount Park. Still to come this month are a community restoration clean and green seminar and the annual PMBC Block Captain Rally.

Check out Keep Philadelphia Beautiful’s website!

The Great American Clean Up is the nation’s largest community improvement program, takes place annually from March 1 through May 31, involving an estimated 2.8 million volunteers and attendees. As an affiliate, Keep Philadelphia Beautiful will host events and contribute to officially registered events taking place in Philadelphia. We look forward to working with you.

  1. THE MAYOR IS A MISINFORMED ABOUT KEEPING THE CITY CLEAN, START WITH THE WORKERS AT CITY HALL AND THE FAMILY CONNECTIONS

Edit | Delete THE CURRENT MAYOR IS A JOKE! HIS REQUEST ON TODAY’S SHOW REALLY PROVED THAT HE HAS NO IDEA WHAT SHAPE THE CITY IS IN NOR DOES HE HAVE A CLUE ON RUNNING IT.

i have motto for him in his next request to clean the city. “provide trash cans to collect in philadelphia and I will make sure you get a $25 fine” Keeping the city filthy is my job as Mayor”

I live across the street from Kimbell Park adjacent to Girls High School, Central High School and LaSalle University. The local stores sell candy, chips, soda, etc. to the children and the park has become a haven for those who choose to drink beer, etc during the day as well as during the night and in an effort to keep the trash, beer bottles, cans, flyers from the local eateries from being strown all up and down the street because I am sick and tired of having to sweep in front of my home (been there 22 years) as well sweep the debris along the curb. I put two 30 gallon trash cans in front of my home to give those that would normally throw the trash on the street a rplace to put the trash in an effort to keep the neighborhood as neat and clean as it use to be.

I have asked the stores in the immediate are to provide trash cans for those leaving their stores and just tossing the wrappers, bottles, plastic juice containers, etc on the street or in the park and no one has complied.

WHAT DID I GET FOR TRYING TO KEEP THE STREET CLEAN! I got a $25 fine from the City of Philadelphia stating that I am littering the sidewalk by having the trash cans at the curb. I will pay the fine and remove the trash cans, but I will never go out and sweep or attempt to pick up trash along the curb or in the park to keep the area clean. The park is also used for walking all neighborhood dogs in the same areas as where all the underage children play without any adult supervision. I was sweeping last week and two girls (about 13 yrs old) came down the street and one discarded a candy wrapper just in front of me the other told her to pick it up why did you throw the paper on the sidewalk. Her reply was, “this is the ghetto don’t nobody care”. I work in Montgomery County and a co-worker discarded the wrapper from a pack of cigarettes and the police gave him a substantial FINE littering. Because there was a recepticle close by where he should have tossed the wrapper. GO FIGURE, I PROVIDE A PLACE TO PUT TRASH AND I GET A $25.00 TICKET FROM THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, BUT IF TRASH IS JUST TOSSED ONTO THE STREET, THERE IS NO FINE.

NOW THE MAYOR IS ASKING THAT WE ALL TAKE PART IN KEEPING PHILADELPHIA CLEAN. HE SHOULD START WITH HIS OFFICE FOR HANDING OUT FINES FOR PROVIDING A WAY TO KEEP THE STREET CLEAN. This is the last straw for me and Philadelphia. I plan to move out of the area as soon as possible.

I KNOW FOR A FACT IT WAS SHERRY COHEN. FORMER CITY COUNCILMAN’ DAVID COHEN’S DAUGHTER WHO GOT THE CITY TO ISSUE SUCH A RIDICULOUS SUMMONS. HER MOTHER FLORENCE USE TO MISUSE THE CITY OFFICE IN THE SAME WAY. FLORENCE NOW LIVES IN A SENIOR FACILUTY AT 19 AND RACE AND SHERRY AND HER GIRLFRIEND NOW LIVE TOGETHER IN THE HOME FOR POLITICAL REASONS. SHE WANTED HER FATHERS JOB BUT WAS TURNED DOWN. AS QUITE AS IT IS KEPT THE COHEN’ NEVER LIVED THERE IT IS JUST AN ADDRESS FOR POLITICAL GAIN.
